Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has a direct message to President Joe Biden over new COVID mandates: Bring it on.
Ivey’s blunt words come in response to Biden’s statement regarding elected officials and states “undermining” COVID relief efforts.
“My plan also takes on elected officials and states that are undermining you and these life-saving actions,” Biden said during a Thursday press conference. “If these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I will use my power as president to get them out of the way.”
Ivey, who is running for reelection, shot back via her campaign’s social media channels.
“You bet I’m standing in the way. And if he thinks he’s going to move me out of the way, he’s got another thing coming. I’m standing as strong as a bull for Alabama against this outrageous Washington overreach. Bring it on,” Ivey said.
She later added, “A call with Republican (governors) just wrapped up. (The president) has overreached with these new mandates, and we’re united in fighting back. I’m partnering alongside my conservative colleagues in this fight. This is a fight for businesses, our hardworking men and women, and our American liberties,” Ivey said.
“I encourage Alabamians to take the vaccine – have been since the beginning, but we’re never going to mandate it. And we certainly aren’t going to allow Washington, D.C. and this president to tell Alabama what to do. Here in AL, we don’t put up with that nonsense.”
The White House announced yesterday a range of new COVID-prevention measures, including a mandate for private businesses with more than 100 employees to require vaccinations or weekly testing.
Ivey described the mandates as “outrageous” and “overreaching” that will “no doubt be challenged in the courts.”
