After last season’s abrupt ending deprived us of March Madness and denied K-State a shot to pull off any big surprises in Kansas City, we know just getting to see any Wildcat basketball this winter will be something to celebrate. But as The Athletic’s CJ Moore reminds us, that’s not the only uncertainly for a roster full of newcomers. How those eight players will turn out is difficult to predict, but there does seem to be some considerable promise in one of Bruce Weber’s most highly rated recruiting classes at Kansas State.
Rather than making him try to guess how 18-year-olds he’s never seen play will fare while making the jump to Big 12 basketball, we talked to CJ about the benefits Kansas State could see from a changing mindset and what should qualify as success this season. Of course, we also got his insights on the progress Kansas State wants to see from key returners like Mike McGuirl, Montavious Murphy and DaJuan Gordon.
Finally, since CJ covers the Midwest and Big 12 basketball, he gave us his breakdown of the conference, led by an elite Baylor team. Be sure to check out more of his stuff at The Athletic, including his “State of the Hoops Program” article for Kansas State. You can also follow him on Twitter @CJMooreHoops.
