Chicago weather: Cold front could bring snow and potentially damaging winds to Chicago area - Chicago Sun-Times

Snow showers could potentially reach the Chicago area Sunday morning, along with strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.

A burst of snow is possible between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m, mixing with rain south of I-80, the weather service said. Accumulation is not expected with temperatures remaining above freezing, but there could be reduced visibility on the roads.

The city could also have wind gusts as high as 55 mph, which can bring down tree limbs and result in some power outages, the weather service said. Unsecured objects, such as outdoor tents and patio furniture, could pose risks to people or be damaged.

The weather service issued a wind advisory that took effect at midnight Sunday, applying to all of central and northern Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana. The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The strong winds will come with a cold front that will have temperatures peak at about 45 degrees and drop to 32 degrees Sunday night, the weather service said. Temperatures are expected to climb back into the low 50s on Monday.
