Starting a small business from scratch is challenging in the best of times, and during COVID-19, perhaps even more difficult, but Allison Slater of Chatham decided it was the perfect time to take a leap of faith. With the increase in people working from home and kids attending school remotely, Slater decided to make the ever-hectic daily lunchtime routine deliciously easier, healthier and something to actually look forward to!
Lunchbox on Main is a new local lunch delivery service that hand-delivers fresh, homemade meals right to your doorstep. Lunchboxes are placed in your own personal cooler bag, which allows for contact-less delivery, and cuts down on packaging (you can purchase cooler bags from Lunchbox on Main, or use your own).
Slater creates a different menu each week, but customers can always build their own meal choosing from a variety of proteins, salads, soups and sides. There is always a vegetarian option on the menu, many dishes are gluten-free and vegan friendly, and ingredients/allergens are listed by dish on the website. Slater makes every item on the menu from scratch, in a shared kitchen, using fresh ingredients, and focusing on the same homemade quality, love and attention she cooks with at home.
Slater, a former fashion retail executive, became passionate about cooking fresh, healthy meals when she herself couldn’t find something she felt good about eating during her long, busy workdays.
“I spent over 20 years in corporate America and one of my biggest pain points was finding something healthy to eat – if I could find time to eat at all,” says Slater. “When I began making my own meals and bringing them to work, it completely changed my mood and energy level throughout the day.
I have long wanted to open a food business that could help others, but the time was never right. Ironically it was in the midst the pandemic, when I found myself struggling to balance of working from home, my daughter’s remote learning, and maintaining my food prep routine along with hearing all the ‘what to make for lunch’ gripes from friends and family, that inspired me to finally take the leap.”

Lunchbox on Main is a pre-order service. Orders are due weekly, by Wednesday at 5PM, for delivery the following week.
