Syracuse, N.Y. — Lakee Dorsey was killed in the city where he was born, but he spent most of his life hundreds of miles away from Syracuse, his girlfriend said.
Now, Dorsey’s mom is asking the community to help bring “her son home” to New York City after he was fatally shot in Syracuse this weekend.
Laura Samuel, of Brooklyn, raised more than $1,600 of her $5,000 goal after her son died from gun violence on Syracuse’s North Side.
Samuel, who is on her way to Syracuse, could not be reached for comment. But Dorsey’s girlfriend, Dorthia Hill, of Syracuse, said he had told her he was born in Syracuse and lived in New York City most of his life. Hill said she met Dorsey on Facebook and they started dating a little more than a year ago. He told her he moved back to Syracuse in 2018.
Around 2 a.m. Saturday, Dorsey was shot in the 500 block of Pearl Street, Syracuse police said. He was rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and later pronounced dead.
“Lakee was a loving, caring person,” Hill said. “He had a big heart and he loved to cook and crack jokes.”
Hill said her boyfriend was working on his music and getting ready to start a clothing line. He also loved making TikTok videos and making others smile, his family and friends said.
Syracuse police are still investigating Dorsey’s death.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222.
