BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A seventh person has been taken to the hospital in connection to a shootout Sunday morning involving at east seven people.
The incident occurred in the 700 and 800 Blocks of 3rd Avenue West near the Bush Hills community.
According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, BPD north and west precinct officers were dispatched to multiple shot spotter alerts after 2 a.m.
Officers arrived in the 700 Block of 3rd Avenue where they found a white Sedan crashed into a utility pole. Birmingham Fire and Rescue services arrived on the scene and pronounced the driver dead.
Additional officers were called to the Shell gas station in the 800 Block of 3rd Avenue where they found a man lying unresponsive in the parking lot. BFRS transported him to UAB with life-threatening injuries.
Officer Truman says dispatchers updated BPD that two more men had arrived at UAB, both suffering from gunshot wounds. BPD was also updated at this time that an additional two men had arrived at Princeton Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.
These four have non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
Around 10:30 a.m., a seventh victim arrived at Princeton by private vehicle suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Police have detained two suspects but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 205-254-1764 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
