Chelsea are moving closer to signing Jhon Durán, who was definitely not our top transfer target at target-man but appears to be the only target we’ve been able to target, man.
But despite his lack of success at Villa Park over the past 18 months, the deal to add the 20-year-old to our nursery of potential talent will be typically expensive. Maybe not as expensive as the €50m talked about in Colombian media, but close nonetheless, especially when talking overall value.
As per The Telegraph, the two teams have a deal agreed “broadly” already — whatever that means — which could be “worth up to £40m”. That total number could include variable clauses as well as a player moving in the opposite direction. That player would most likely not be Conor Gallagher, but it could be Ian Maatsen.
Both of those players, as well Durán himself with Colombia are about to be involved in continental tournaments with their respective nations, so it may be a while before all this gets agreed. Chelsea are targeting a “long, incentivised contract” for Durán (i.e. low wages rising higher if he behaves and succeeds), which is typical for us these days (though we can only amortize transfer fees across five years now, instead of the eight previously).
Chelsea granted permission to speak to Jhon Duran as Villa enquire about Ian Maatsen. Villa also remain interested in Gallagher but will only sign a Chelsea player if Duran goes to Stamford Bridge #cfc #avfchttps://t.co/8TKO6WWHhh
