'Bring your own juice' - 247Sports

MADISON, Wis. -- Camp Randall Stadium is widely considered one of the toughest environments in college football. Each fall Saturday, roughly 80,000 screaming lunatics pack the stands, creating one of the biggest home-field advantages the sport has to offer.

This fall will be different, however. Acclimating to life in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Ten Conference has already opted not to allow fans to attend football games this season.

Without the support of the home crowd on their side, the Badgers know they'll have to manufacture their own energy during the 2020 campaign. Their motto since the start of fall camp? 'Bring your own juice.'

"It's definitely gonna be different," senior safety Collin Wilder. "Camp Randall is not gonna be the same without 85,000-plus fans there. We're definitely gonna miss them.

"Our emphasis is bring your own juice. It's gonna be quiet in there. That's gonna be one of our biggest challenges."

Wisconsin ranked No. 16 in the country last season in average home attendance, including fifth in the Big Ten at 76,472 fans per game. Including all away and neutral site games, only 11 teams in college football played in front of more fans than the Badgers in 2019.

Adjusting to a stadium environment where the only human noise manufactured on game days will be by the players and coaching staff, UW has done away with music during practices.

"It's gonna be different. It's just like practice. Sometimes when you're on the field, you don't even notice the fans until you come off the field," said junior cornerback Faion Hicks. "We don't have to change anything that we do.

"Just go out there, communicate, and just bring our own energy."

Across the rest of the college football landscape, attendance policies have varied. In the SEC, Big 12, and ACC some programs are permitting more than 20,000 fans to attend games.

"I think every player wishes we could have a packed out stadium," senior cornerback Caesar Williams said. "Not having a 'jump around' is gonna be a little weird."

"Having no fans is no problem to me," he continued. "We've just got to go out and do what we do in a practice every day in a game setting."

Wisconsin went undefeated at home in 2019, posting a 7-0 record. Over the last 11 years, the Badgers have an impressive 69-9 record at Camp Randall. In fact, you'd have to go all the way back to 2008 to find a season in which UW dropped more than two games at home.

While they're forced to give up their strong home-field advantage as they attempt to repeat as Big Ten West champions, UW admits it's a small price to pay for a season that was in such doubt this summer after the Big Ten initially opted to scrap the fall season all together.

"Really enjoying each other, enjoying our teammates, and really just taking in the fact that we get to play football."
