Denver weather: Near-record warmth, dry conditions bring more hazy skies - The Denver Post

Near-record warmth and widespread smoke will impact Thursday’s weather. The National Weather Service in Boulder warned very dry conditions will continue throughout the day, which will increase the likelihood of wildlife flare-ups.

Highs are predicted to reach near 87 degrees in the Denver area, with temperatures possibly higher in the plains. David Barjenbruch of NWS Boulder said the record temperature for Oct. 8 is 85 degrees set in 1910.

With the very warm temperatures, active fires and light breezes, Barjenbruch warns the skies will be hazy with smoke.

“It looks like the thickest smoke of the day will focus in the Fort Collins and Greeley area,” he said. “We expect the fires to flare up, especially the further north you go.”

Smoke will be lighter in Denver but hazy during the evening and overnight hours, Barjenbruch said.

Looking into the weekend, temperatures will continue to be in the mid- to upper 80s under sunny skies, continuing conditions that will increase smoke coverage. However, by Sunday, there is a front that may bring a slight chance of showers and bring down temperatures.

“Winds are going to increase ahead of it and behind it, and that will increase our fire danger at that time,” Barjenbruch said.
