CHICAGO — More than 401,000 Chicagoans have already voted by mail, breaking the city’s record.
But there are thousands who have not yet submitted their ballots, according to the Chicago Board of Elections. And at this point in the election, officials are urging those people to bring their ballot to a secured drop box rather than mail it in to ensure it’s counted.
“Although you can drop your ballot in the U.S. mail, we highly recommend that you use one of our secured drop boxes,” Marisel Hernandez, chair of the Chicago Board of Elections, said at a Monday news conference.
People who applied to vote by mail can also still vote in person. If that applies to you, you’ll have to take your mail-in ballot to a polling place and surrender it; or, if you never received a mail-in ballot, you’ll have to sign an affidavit. After that, you’ll be able to vote in person.
Mail-in ballots can be submitted to all early voting locations and a select few libraries Monday.
But come Tuesday, the library drop boxes while be closed, but new ones will take ballots at the United Center, Sox Park and Wrigley Field. There will not be drop boxes at people’s home precinct polling places.
Here’s where you can bring your mail-in ballots on Tuesday:
All ballots will be accepted through 7 p.m. Tuesday.
