St. Peter’s Kehoe brothers will bring their baseball talents to CSI - SILive.com

It certainly has turned out to be the best of ALL worlds for the Kehoe brothers, Michael and Ryan.

The St. Peter’s tandem recently signed National Letters of Intent to attend the College of Staten Island on partial baseball scholarships, the Advance has learned.

Michael, a catcher, and Ryan, a pitcher, agreed on everything pertaining to their decision to attend the Division 2 school and hope to be a formidable battery over the course of their four years with the Willowbrook school.

"My brother and I wanted to stay together for college and the fact we’re going to be able to do that, stay at home and play division 2 is great — you can’t go wrong‚'’ said Ryan. "I’m very satisfied with this decision.''

"We just love everything about signing with CSI,'' added Michael. "We’re going to get to play in front of our family and friends; we get to see our younger brother (Jack, freshman at St. Peter’s) play in high school and, of course, I love that I’ll be able to still play with my brother.

"That was important,'' added Michael. "I love playing with him.''

The 16-year-old Kehoe brothers are both three-year varsity players who figure big in the Eagles' plans if there’s a season next spring. They haven’t had an opportunity to discuss their roles with CSI manager Mike Mauro, but, nonetheless, are looking forward to playing at the next level.

Although they missed playing a junior season with the Eagles, they played an abbreviated schedule with their travel program, the Staten Island Orioles, on top of working out with each other as often as possible at local parks.

Ryan, a right-handed pitcher, says he throws five different pitches, including a four and two-seam fast ball; a cutter; a change-up and curve ball.

"Obviously, when I get to CSI, I’m hoping to get a spot in the rotation and help as much as I can,'' said Ryan. "I think it’s a possibility.

"I’ve been feeling pretty good when I do play.''

Michael, meanwhile, is a backstop that considers himself a contact hitter.

"I hope to compete as soon as I walk in the door,'' he said. "It’s all I can do.''

As they’ve done their entire careers, the New Dorp residents will lean on each other with the Dolphins.

"It’s huge having Michael with me. He knows what pitches to call in different situations and just makes it easier for me when I’m out there,'' said Ryan. "We’ve been playing all these years together and we’re not going to stop now.''

"I think it’s great. He knows everything he has to do and makes me look good,'' added Michael. "He’s a bulldog on the mound and I’m looking forward to the future.''

Ryan, who is planning to major in nursing, said he also received interest from St. Thomas Aquinas and Mount St. Mary.

Michael, who will study physical therapy, also received interest from Mount St. Mary.
