After months of interest and reports, the Red Sox made an actual acquisition on Saturday, signing starting pitcher Martin Perez.

The negotiations were first reported by Fox's Ken Rosenthal, with the deal itself and the details confirmed by Chris Cotillo of MassLive. It's a one-year, $4.5 million contract for the left-hander, with a $6 million and $500K buyout for the 2022 season.

Perez spent the 2020 season with the Red Sox, and posted a 3-5 record with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts. His previous contract had a $6.85 million team option for the 2021 season, which Boston declined back in November, making Perez a free agent.

With Chris Sale expected to miss the start of the season as he continues rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, Perez adds much needed depth to the Red Sox starting rotation. The team will likely still need to add a starter or two before the start of the regular season, and have been rumored to be in contention for Jake Odorizzi.
