FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — The Army & Air Force Exchange Service named the Fort Leonard Wood Exchange team the worldwide winner of its 2022 Global Connections Worldwide Award.

This is the first year Fort Leonard Wood has won the award, which recognizes Exchanges throughout the world that demonstrate the importance of diverse skills, perspectives and values through community events and engagements.

U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leonard Wood Commander Col. Anthony Pollio presented the award on behalf of the AAFES Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity and Inclusion to Exchange employees during an award ceremony Wednesday at the Main Exchange.

During the presentation, Pollio emphasized AAFES’ dedication to the community.

“One of the things that impresses me about Fort Leonard Wood is the sense of community and the amount of care the people dedicated to supporting this installation put into the mission we have here,” he said. “The fact that you were selected from all the institutions worldwide is a testament to that dedication.”

The Fort Leonard Wood team’s efforts in assisting with events, such as Military Spouse Appreciation Day and the Month of the Military Child drive-thru, event were highlighted as part of the award.

“It’s about being involved with the community and your associates,” Fort Leonard Wood AAFES General Manager Donald Cantwell said. “This award lets our associates know that somebody recognizes everything they did last year. There were still a lot of changes we had to make to remain COVID compliant, so it made things harder, but they came through and did a lot of great things despite the challenges they faced.”

Fort Leonard Wood’s Main Exchange Manager Stacy Firemoon said the award was a team effort.

“I was proud to see the community and associates come together to execute all of the events,” she said. “Everybody contributed to the community and brought everybody together.”
