MADISON, Wis. (WAOW) - On a day that it was 50 degrees in Munich, Germany is also a day that it was 50 degrees in Madison, Wisconsin.

Stratford kicker, Laurenz Plattner who's a foreign exchange student from Munich, is still getting acclimated to life in America, but found a home on the Stratford football team.

In the Division 6 State Championship, Stratford's Laurenz Plattner booted a game-winning 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift Straftord to a 10-7 victory and back-to-back state titles on Thursday at Camp Randall in Madison.

"The first day I arrived here, I felt welcomed by the team," said Plattner.

Only attempting extra points during the season, his leg was put to the test on the biggest stage at Camp Randall Stadium in the WIAA Division 6 State Football Championship.

Plattner is a German exchange student and hadn't attempted a field goal in a game before Thursday..

"Before the game, I never thought I'm going to attempt a game-winning field goal," said Plattner.

He had two shots at a game-winning field goal. One that was blocked with 50 seconds left in the game.

"I wanted another of course to prove that I can do it. Of course, after i kicked the first one, i felt depressed a little bit, sad. If we lose this game, I'm the idiot," Plattner said.

But after a forced fumble picked up by Alec Chapel gave Stratford one last shot for glory and a back-to-back state championship.

And it all came down to the leg of Plattner with no time on the clock. Plattner booted through his second chance FG from 32 yards out and  give the Tigers a 10-7 victory and another state championship for the Stratford Tigers.

"Everyone came down to me and said, '"Yeah Laurenz, you can make it, you can make it. Do just like you did in practice'" and well, I made it," Plattner said.

'Just like you did in practice' was also marked across his arm to remind himself to draw confidence but he doesn't want to take any of the credit.

"I really did not do that much, but just the other guys are the heroes," said Plattner.

He says he'll be calling his parents and family back in Munich to let them know that he won his team a state title in a storybook ending.
