Fans will still be able to bring their own food into Globe Life Field, though not as much as at Globe Life Park.
That was one of two significant guest policy changes announced by the Rangers on Wednesday in advance of the opening of the new retractable-roof stadium next month. The other: There will be no smoking allowed anywhere inside the building.
Fans will, however, be able to vote on their favorite concession item to be featured as one of the signature items at the park.
The new outside food policy permits fans to bring in food so long as it fits inside a clear one gallon-sized plastic bag. Fans may also bring a single sealed, non-flavored bottle of water of one liter or less. Additional considerations will be made for dietary concerns and infants. The previous policy allowed fans to bring food in soft-sided collapsible coolers.
The new policy, which club spokesman John Blake said was primarily security-based, is in line with the online policy for the most recently opened MLB park, Atlanta’s Truist Park. The wording for both parks’ outside food policies are almost identical. Marlins Park in Miami, the next most-recently opened stadium, allows “individual serving-sized food items in a clear plastic bag,” according to the team website. Minnesota’s Target Field, which opened in 2010, still permits soft-sided coolers, according to the Twins’ website. The Rangers’ policy is also identical to that of the Houston Astros.
Because the stadium has a retractable roof, the interior of the stadium is considered an indoor facility and thus subject to the City of Arlington’s no smoking ordinance. A designated smoking area will be located outside the venue at the southwest entry. Guests must have their ticket to re-enter the stadium and no alcohol will be permitted in the designated smoking area.
At Globe Life Park, there were some designated areas behind sections or around ramps outside the seating bowl.
As for the fan voting for concession items, there are three finalists: Brisket-stuffed Egg Rolls, the Rangers Bomb (chopped brisket, cream cheese, jack cheese and jalapeƱos, battered and deep fried) and the steak finger relleno. Fans can vote via @Rangers on Twitter from Feb. 10-12.
