Northwest winds, gusting up to 31 mph, will usher in a steep drop in temperatures across Connecticut.
Today’s high will peak in the mid to upper 30s in northwest Connecticut and in the low 40s along the shoreline.
Once the wind starts blowing, temperatures will begin a steady drop throughout the day.
Most areas in Connecticut will feel a nearly 20-degree temperature drop from early Wednesday afternoon to 7 a.m. Thursday.
Tonight and early Thursday morning, temperatures will plummet into the mid-teens in interior Connecticut and into the low 20s in the southern half of the state.
Dry weather is expected Wednesday through Thursday as high pressure builds into the region.
It will be mostly sunny, but breezy as northwest winds gust to 25 to 30 mph from late morning into the afternoon.
Strongest wind gusts are expected between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service’s hourly forecast.
Gusts will diminish around sunset at 5:28 p.m.; on Feb. 1, sunset was 23 minutes earlier.
Highs will continue to be a few degrees above normal for this time of year, in the upper 30s to middle 40s.
More normal temperatures for this time of year are forecast tonight with lows in the 20s region-wide.
Slightly below normal temperature are in store for Thursday and Friday, with dry conditions continuing.
Clouds will increase Thursday as a system passes well to our south.
At this point, the weekend is looking good with sunny skies during the day and highs in the low to mid-40s.
The Northeast Regional Climate Center says February’s average temperatures (up to Feb. 15) have been 6.9 degrees above normal. The average temperature of 37.9 degrees makes it the second warmest Feburary on record for Bridgeport.
