Gulf disturbance to bring rain to Houston - Chron

A disturbance detected just off the Texas coast will likely dump a few inches of rain over Houston through Tuesday, meteorologists say.

The system has a 10 percent chance of developing into a named storm over the next few days, although sporadic and sometimes heavy rainfall is almost a certainty for much of Southeast Texas. Storms are expected to crop up with afternoon heating Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are the main concern over the next few days, with anticipated rainfall amounts upward of 2 inches. Rain chances stick around for a few days and increase to a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms by Friday.

The rain will keep high temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Heat index values, or “feels like temperatures,” could still reach triple digits during this period.

As the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico targets Texas early in the week, meteorologists are keeping their eyes on a second system near the Bahamas. That disturbance has a 20 percent chance of developing into a named storm by the weekend, although National Hurricane Center experts said it is too early to tell if that system will impact Houston or Southeast Texas.
