SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Two musically-talented Utah brothers have a message to the entire world during these troubling times. That message – Hold On. That’s the name of their recently released song and video, shot and edited in Salt Lake City.
The lyrics for the new song actually started a year ago when one of the brothers, Tim Drisdom, 36, a black high school athletic director and coach, faced his own dark day of racism.
“I went through some pretty difficult times,” said Tim who played for the University of Utah, and is now the head basketball coach at Intermountain Christian School in Holladay.
Last year, he faced a series of racial remarks aimed at him while coaching.
“The night of the trial, I was kind of feeling heavy and ended up at my school on the piano and just started writing,” said Tim.
The lyrics to the song begin, “What have we come to? Where is the Love? We need direction from God above.”
Tim didn’t finish the song until this year during the pandemic after he brought his brother, Terrance, 27 — who’s known as ERNE in the music world — to help finish the song.
“We didn’t plan anything,” he said. “I just popped in and I was like, ‘hey man, I got an idea,’ and he was like, ‘hey man, what are you thinking,’ and we just started laying it down piece by piece, putting it together, and he put a ton of magic on it and it is what it is today.”
Other lyrics include, “I know it’s hard, but just hold on, my brother, hold on… just hold on… everything has a purpose, no more living in fear. Stand tall and show the world you are here! Your change is coming…”
Fitting words in this world of turmoil and heartache, when many may be losing hope.
The Drisdom brothers said they hope their new song will bring about hope.
“This is just a really bad time right now, and the message of this song is we have to find a way to get through it,” said Terrence. “It’s not just about one incident, it’s about everyday life that people go through. If we can hold on through all of our situations, then we will be better for it in the end.”
