DULUTH, MN -- Get ready for some fun, with a side of soul food.
"We're going to sing, we are going to dance and just have a good time," said President of the Duluth NAACP, Stephan Witherspoon.
Witherspoon and his brother, Solomon are opening up a new restaurant in the Lincoln Park Craft District.
"We'll be serving, mac and cheese, cornbread-based dressing, fried chicken, mash potatoes, gravy, and sweet potato pie," said Solomon.
The two brothers are working hard to open up 'Doc Witherspoon's Soul Food Kitchen' by the summer of 2021.
Duluthians and visitors will get to enjoy recipes that have been passed down for four generations.
"We want to pass on what we've been enjoying our whole life and what brought our family together," said Solomon.
Their love for food stems from their father, Doc Witherspoon, he too owned a restaurant in the late '70s in Duluth.
"He loved to cook for people, that was his thing," said Stephan.
Now they're hoping they can do the same, especially at a time like this.
"There is so much unrest and so much division but guess what? There is still love out there so we are going to spread love."
Helping them along the way is the owner of OMC, Duluth Grill, and Corktown Deli, Tom Hanson.
"The first time I tasted their cornbread dressing I went wow, these guys have it," said Hanson.
Hanson will mentor the brothers and support them through the entire process.
"There is enough food business to go around in this community," adds Hanson.
The Witherspoon's are hoping to pay it forward one day.
"15 years from now we want to do exactly what Tom is doing for us, we want to have that same story like we are going to pay it forward right now because it's bringing unity to our community," said Solomon.
If you would like to support the Witherspoon's along the way, on October 4 they're having a fundraiser pop-up event at the Peace United Church.
The brothers will be serving the community a taste of what's to come.
