The Cattaraugus County Health Department confirmed four additional cases of COVID-19 among residents within the county Wednesday. The department’s active positive COVID-19 caseload is 16; 209 have recovered, and six have died.
According to a news release issued by the health department, the 228th confirmed case is a man who resides in the southeast quadrant of the county. The man has no significant travel history and denies being in direct contact with a positive COVID-19 person. He recently was hospitalized with fever and shortness of breath, and on Tuesday was given a rapid test for COVID-19. His test results indicated that he was positive for the virus.

She reported being asymptomatic, having no fever, no cough, no body aches, etc. She was given a rapid test for COVID-19 on Wednesday, and her test results indicated that she was positive for the virus.
The 231st confirmed case is a woman who resides in the southeast quadrant of the county and has no significant travel history, according to the release. She is a health care worker who reports being in direct contact with a positive COVID-19 person. After she recently developed cough and fever, she was given a rapid test for COVID-19 on Wednesday as pat of a requirement that healthcare facilities test employees weekly. Her test results indicated that she was positive for the virus.
The health department has begun a thorough contact tracing investigation for individuals that any of the four new cases have been in contact with and the places the four have visited.
The health department emphasizes that any resident experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath or whole body aches should call their health care provider and avoid going directly to an urgent care facility or the emergency room.
Other precautions are frequent hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using toilets, and after coughing, sneezing or blowing noses. When soap and water are not available, people should use alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain a minimum of 60% alcohol. Also people should avoid touching their eyes, noses and mouths, especially with unwashed hands, and they should disinfect commonly touched surfaces with cleaners approved by the EPA against COVID-19.
