How about a watercolor unicorn pillow?

Can you believe it’s International Pillow Fight Month?!  (or that there’s even such an occasion?!)  Well, it’s true, and it’s celebrated on the first Saturday in April.  First launched in 2008, it’s a worldwide event celebrated in major cities throughout Canada, Europe and Asia.  The largest one took place in New York on March 22, 2008, with over 25 international cities participating in the first “international flash mob.”  So why do it?  It’s a good way to let out a little (or a lot) of frustration.  Fluff your pillow and go at it!  Remember:  be gentle and have fun!

What does this have to do with the Exchange?  We have a great assortment of new and consigned pillows!  Some are wonderfully witty  – “Dogs Loved; People Tolerated,” “Mirror Mirror on the Wall” …. And pretty garden-themed ones (bunnies and florals).  Some of them would look lovely on your outdoor patio.  Make sure to check them out!

There are plenty of pillows to choose from.

Is your purchase a gift?  Ask about our giftwrapping service.  Now, for only $2, select one of our beautiful seasonal shopping bags, and we will provide tissue and curling ribbon.

Just a reminder of our upcoming events …

Now through April 2nd – It’s not too late to participate in our Easter Food Drive for The INN.   We are collecting non-perishables, canned goods, toiletries and paper goods.  You have one more day to show how generous Garden City can be.

May 1st – Just in time for Mother’s Day, The Garden City Historical Society (TGCHS) is having “An Inspiring Garden Market” on the front lawn of the Museum 10am – 3pm.  TGCHS has partnered with LI’s most prestigious growers to make your garden gorgeous!  They/we will have a selection of unusual annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies, hydrangeas.  You can also pre-order until April 9th  at www.eventbrite.com/e/spring-plant-sale-pre-book-event-tickets-144760535659

The Exchange shop will be open, selling our normal merchandise, as well as garden-themed items.  Outside the shop we will have “Cornelia’s Courtyard Sale” which will be chock full of wonderful bargains!  Check us out!  Watch for more details.

May 17th – TGCHS will be having its first annual A.T. Stewart Golf Classic at the Cherry Valley Club.

Just a reminder that we are open late on Wednesdays until 6:00pm.  It’s a great chance to shop in peace and quiet, for those of you who work.  We get newly consigned merchandise almost every day!   Not comfortable with coming into the shop?  Please shop online at www.atstewartexchange.org and come to the Exchange to pick up.  We also post photos on the AT Stewart Exchange Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as the TGCHS website (www.tgchs.org).

When you do come into the Shop, please follow our established sanitizing protocols and social distancing rules to keep everyone safe.  Please, now more than ever, wear your mask.  We’re wearing ours.  And please use the hand-sanitizer when you enter the shop. And, to keep you feeling safe while shopping, we have an air purifier which cleans the air in the Shop every hour.

Unfamiliar with the Exchange Consignment Shop?  We are housed in The Garden City Historical Society (TGCHS) Museum on 109 Eleventh Street (in the basement of the building). All the proceeds from the Shop sales directly benefit TGCHS.  In addition to our best sellers – jewelry (costume and fine), lamps, mirrors, and crystal (Waterford, Baccarat, Tiffany) — we take/accept silver, pocketbooks, china, furniture, artwork, and collectibles.  All items are in new or nearly new condition.

Up until a year ago, we did consignments by walk-in.  With the virus, we have had to take measures to safeguard our customers, consignors, and volunteers.  Having appointments helps to keep down the numbers of people in the Shop at any point in time and reduces wait-times to consign.  Consignments are now done Wednesday through Friday 11:00am – 2:00pm by appointment ONLY, so please call (516)746-8900.  Unsure if your items are appropriate to consign?  Email photos to store@ atstewartexchange.org and be sure to include sizing info.  Please be sure items are cleaned and polished, ready for sale.

All the profits from the Consignment Shop support the maintenance and upkeep of TGCHS Museum.  Thanks to your generous support, work on the outside of the Museum continues.

The shop is located at 109 Eleventh Street. Shop hours: Tues – Fri 10:00 – 4:00; Wednesday until 6:00pm; Sat noon – 4:00pm. Please call (516) 746-8900 for more information.
