The final full week of April kicks off on a warm note as temperatures soar into the upper 60s and lower 70s for much of the state. Despite the warmth however plenty of cloud cover still hangs overhead, and the middle of the state is seeing plenty of wind once again. The next storm system will arrive later this evening, bringing some rain showers (snow for higher elevations) with it as we head into Monday night. It will begin in the northern part of the state and begin pushing southward through the overnight hours.
For tonight, far north locations such as Sheridan and Buffalo will begin to see rain showers during the late evening and early overnight hours. This will make its way to Casper and Riverton shortly after midnight, beginning as a very cold rain and shifting into a light snowfall during the early morning hours of Tuesday as temperatures drop into the mid and lower 30s. The same can be said for Sheridan and Buffalo. The wind will luckily calm down considerably for the areas seeing the worst of it today as the system moves in overnight as well.
Cheyenne and Southeast Wyoming will begin to see the rain during the lunchtime hours of Tuesday when temperatures are in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The exception of course is Laramie which will likely see snow instead of rain. The heaviest rain will begin to fall in the region during the evening hours of Tuesday, and a few rumbles of thunder will be possible along with it. Winds will be relatively breezy from the north around SE Wyoming tomorrow afternoon as well, likely hanging in the 20-25 mph range with gusts over 30 mph. Cheyenne could see more than an inch of rainfall out of this event, with the rain expected to hang around into the early parts of Wednesday morning. By that point it may shift into a light snowfall as low temperatures approach the freezing point. Places like Casper and Riverton will likely see only a quarter of an inch or so, but that should still make an impact on the drought conditions in the region.
Sunshine looks to finally make a return Wednesday afternoon and hang around through much of Thursday and Friday, allowing temperatures to bounce back real quick after the cool-down coming through on Tuesday. Temperatures on Saturday will be in the upper 70s and maybe even the lower 80s. More clouds are expected to fill in a bit on Saturday before scattered thunderstorms become a possibility on Sunday.
