The addition of 4 new firefighters to the La Porte Fire Department brings the squad to its full staffing of 45 for the first time in about 4 years, Chief Andy Snyder told WNLP.

The new firefighters, who are already on the job, were officially welcomed at La Porte City Hall on Tuesday, June 8. The firefighters completed 22 weeks of academy training, 10 weeks to become certified as emergency medical technicians and 12 weeks of firefighter training to become certified as firefighter I/II.  The firefighting training portion culminated on May 28 with a graduation ceremony and they began on shift the following week.
