SAN LORENZO — No one was injured after police exchanged gunfire with a 21-year-old man after answering a domestic violence call early Saturday morning, according to an Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesman.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex on the 16600 block of Ashland Avenue in San Lorenzo. Police were called to the area for a domestic disturbance around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The 21-year-old man allegedly slammed the door in the deputies’ faces, then opened it and starting shooting at the deputies, who returned fire “in defense of their lives,” the news release says. The deputies “tactically retreated” after the gunfire exchange.

A short time later, the man was seen jumping from a balcony into some bushes, and he reportedly surrendered to police a short time later, authorities said.

The man, identified as Raqee Ansarullah, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder three peace officers, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting was captured on police body camera video, but it has not released any footage thus far. The Sheriff’s office has also not yet released footage of an April incident where deputies shot and killed a 26-year-old man in Hayward.
