Portland Friday weather: Two wet systems bring much-needed rain through the weekend - OregonLive

Two potentially soaking weather systems will move through the Pacific Northwest over the next three days bringing vital moisture to the region.

The National Weather Service calls the forecast “unseasonably active” for June and expects as much as 1.5 inches of rain will fall on Portland through Sunday night.

The first front brings rain beginning later Friday morning and continuing through much of the day. The high will be near 64 degrees. As of 5 a.m., the front had already reached the Oregon coast and was making its way westward.

Saturday will offer a short break in precipitation with showers likely at times, and some dry periods. Skies will remain mostly cloudy. The high temperature will be near 75 degrees, a 10-degree climb due to the air mass turning increasingly subtropical as we move through the weekend.

Overnight, a stronger system approaches the metro area. Rain may be heavy at times, and there will be a slight chance of thunder.

The second rain event arrives early Sunday. The weather service expects impressive rain totals of up to an additional inch of rain as the weekend closes out. If Portland gets an inch of rain Sunday, it will break the previous record of .89 inches set in 1980. The average rainfall for the entire month of June is 1.70 inches.

Even with some impressive rainfall this week and heading into next week, the Pacific Northwest is still under extreme fire danger.
