WASHINGTON PARK — Retreat at the Currency Exchange Cafe will reopen Thursday with a Happy Hour event hosted by DJ Sean Doe.
The cafe, 305 E. Garfield Blvd., run by Theaster Gates‘ Rebuild Foundation, provides a platform for creatives in music, food and art. Last year, the cafe teamed up with Bronzeville’s Peach’s Restaurant to offer food. But the coronavirus pandemic forced it to close.
Retreat will serve sandwiches, pastries and muffins with coffee and tea. Menu items cost $2-$7.
The cafe will observe COVID-19 protocols, with staff wearing masks and unvaccinated guests encouraged to do so.
Meeting and coworking space will be available to guests, as well, with the latter able to accommodate up to 18 people.
Thursday’s grand reopening event will run 5:30-7:30 p.m, with regular business hours 8 a.m.-3 p.m.Tuesday-Friday.
