Remember: we are now open on Mondays!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas … All around town, you see the signs… lights on trees and shrubs, large ornaments and inflatables on lawns, decorated trees in the windows. And so it is with The Garden City Historical Society Museum! When you drive by, it looks so magical!
A big thank you to all who came to the Dec. 4th Holiday Village & Market. All were wowed by the venue and the vendors! The Senior Center was beautifully decorated with nine (9) Christmas trees, which were raffled off as part of the “Festival of Trees.” The wonderful vendors were selling all kinds of interesting and unusual items. The Exchange set up a table at the Village AND the Shop was also open. We even sponsored and decorated a tree – aptly named “Victorian Splendor.” Congrats to the lucky buyer of that tree! And the shoppers – young and old alike — were there to buy! I want to give a special shout-out to my volunteers who staffed the Shop at the Museum and the table at the Senior Center!!
Not to worry – the Exchange still has a lot of great holiday décor and gifts!! Check out our adorable Bearington bears, the felted ornaments made from women artisans from Nepal, and the fanciful resin trees. Our merry and campy dish towels have been a big hit, as have the beautiful cocktail and luncheon napkins. We have a neat selection of brass ornaments for sale, including the painted and brass 3D rendering of the A.T. Stewart Museum!
All are welcome to come in and browse the Exchange. However, if you are not vaccinated, please wear a mask. Even though all the volunteers have been vaccinated, you will see that we continue to wear our masks, out of an abundance of caution. We offer hand-sanitizer when you enter the shop, and, to keep you feeling safe, we are running the air purifier which cleans the air in the Shop every hour.
We get newly consigned merchandise almost every day! And we sell new merchandise – especially gift items – purchased through the NY Gift Show. Therefore, I prefer to think of our shop as a Gift and Resale Shop. If you can’t make it in right away, please shop online at www.atstewartexchange.org and pick up your purchases at the Exchange. We also post photos on the AT Stewart Exchange Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as the TGCHS website (www.tgchs.org).
Unfamiliar with the Exchange Consignment Shop? We are housed in The Garden City Historical Society (TGCHS) Museum on 109 Eleventh Street (in the basement of the building). All the proceeds from the Shop sales directly benefit TGCHS. In addition to our best sellers – jewelry (costume and fine), lamps, mirrors, and crystal (Waterford, Baccarat, Tiffany) — we take/accept silver, pocketbooks, china, furniture, artwork, and collectibles. All items are in new or nearly new condition.
With the virus, we have had to take measures to safeguard our customers, consignors, and volunteers. We now do consignments by appointment only which helps to keep down the numbers of people in the Shop at any point in time and reduces wait-times to consign. Consignments are now done Wednesday through Friday 11:00am – 2:00pm by appointment ONLY, so please call (516)746-8900. Unsure if your items are appropriate to consign? Email photos to store@atstewartexchange.org and be sure to include sizing info. Please be sure items are cleaned and polished, ready for sale.
All the profits from the Consignment Shop support the maintenance and upkeep of TGCHS Museum. Thanks to your generous support, work on the outside of the Museum continues.
The shop is located at 109 Eleventh Street. Shop hours: Monday – Fri 10:00 – 4:00; Wednesday til 6:00pm; Sat noon – 4:00pm. For more information please call (516) 746-8900
