Each year, the nation honors the service and sacrifices of Vietnam War veterans March 29 for National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which marks the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam March 29, 1973.

Vietnam Veterans were invited to attend events at local Exchanges in South Korea and around the world. Each Vietnam Veteran received a complimentary lapel pin as a token of gratitude for their service, valor and sacrifice. The events commemorated the service and sacrifices made by the nearly three million service members who served in Vietnam.

“So many of these Veterans did not receive much gratitude or respect at the time of their service,” said Exchange Director/CEO Tom Shull, a Veteran who served during the Vietnam War period. “The pinning ceremonies are a chance for the Exchange to do its part in giving them the proper thanks and recognition they deserved then and deserve now.”

More than 58,000 Americans were killed and many thousands more were wounded and injured or determined to be missing.
