The incident took place Sunday after 4 p.m., on Walker Drive in Florence, according to Rankin County Sheriff's Office.In a news release, the Department of Public Safety said the deputies were responding to a disturbance after receiving a call about someone threatening a family member. Authorities say the individual drew a weapon and fired shots at the deputies. During the gunfire exchange, the individual was wounded and later transported to a hospital for medical care.Officials confirmed the person who has not been identified died at the hospital Sunday. No deputies were seriously injured.
