The regional Mexican band Intocable will bring the first drive-in concert to the El Paso County Coliseum.
The Texas band is to perform at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the El Paso County Coliseum.
“After the live music industry has been on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, promoters are looking for different and creative ways to revive the concert going experience while still abiding by health directives and keeping everyone safe," said Brian Kennedy, chairman of the coliseum board in an email.
“We are proud to have the ideal premises for a family friendly and healthy environment," he added.
Coliseum officials said some band members had the coronavirus two weeks ago but are recovering and still on board with the El Paso date.
The band had to postpone some previous drive-in concerts in other cities because of the virus.
According to a Houston Chronicle news story, members Rene Martinez, Felix Salinas, Sergio Serna, Johnny Lee Rosas and Juan Hernandez caught the virus. Lead singer Ricky Muñoz and band mate Alejandro Gulmar have so far tested negative.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17 through Ticketmaster.com or at the coliseum box office. Each ticket allows up to four people per car; an additional person is $25 with a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle. Fans will be able to bring lawn chairs to sit in front or in back of their vehicle.
To ensure social distancing, there will be an empty parking lot space between cars.
Attendees are welcome to bring food and drinks to enjoy the show that will feature the performers on a stage. Large screens will project the performance.
Restrooms will be located inside the coliseum building and they will be sanitized after each use. Every person who enters the building must wear a face mask at all times. People will sanitize their hands and have their temperature checked before entering the building. Social distancing of six feet will be enforced while using the restrooms.
