Golden Globes: HFPA Says "We Understand That We Need to Bring in Black Members" - Hollywood Reporter

The statement comes days after a scathing exposé in the Los Angeles Times and days before the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

In the wake of last Sunday's scathing exposé in the Los Angeles Times, and with just days remaining before the 78th Golden Globe Awards next Sunday, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Globes, is vowing to do better.

"We are fully committed to ensuring our membership is reflective of the communities around the world who love film, TV and the artists inspiring and educating them," the HFPA, an organization of SoCal-based journalists for publications based abroad, said in a Thursday statement issued to the Times.

The earlier Times report revealed that there are currently zero Black journalists among the organization's 87 members.

Thursday's HFPA statement continued, "We understand that we need to bring in Black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible."

Last Sunday's Times report also called out the HFPA, which is a nonprofit organization, for paying its own members — many of whom are struggling journalists — substantial amounts of money to serve as officers and on various committees.
