Sgt. Pepperoni’s will bring a third store to Irvine in May - OCRegister

Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store continues to expand with partners announcing that they will soon open in Irvine, bringing the total number of Orange County locations to three.

“We look at it as really slow expansion in the sense that we’ve been together as a group for eight years. And it really just in the last year expanded by opening Aliso Viejo and now Irvine,” said Jeff Roberts, a partner of Sgt. Pepperoni’s along with his wife Erica, Ellen and Rob Dodman, Grace and Andy Hong, Jennifer and Stan Frazier, and their families.

“Obviously the pandemic set a lot of people back, but we’re so confident and so proud of what we’re doing each and every day that we’re just bullish on a good opportunity,” Roberts said in a recent interview.

Set in Campus Plaza, in a space that was formerly Gina’s Pizza, the restaurant will offer fast-casual service and pleasant surroundings, Roberts said. “It’s an Irvine Company property. So, I mean, incredible appointments in terms of the outdoor common area space: grass and planters, umbrellas and beautiful furniture. It’s a world-class community shopping center,” he said.

The 2,500 square-foot restaurant will have design accents paying tribute to the Beatles and an 800-square foot patio. Catering to the UC Irvine community, the pizzeria will offer free WiFi, nods to the Anteaters basketball team, a small arcade games section and a big screen TV.

Sgt. Pepperoni’s will also connect with the community at large, continuing to host regular fundraisers for local schools, sports teams and charities, including Julian’s Lego Corner at CHOC Children’s Hospital.

Fans of the pizzeria will find their favorites from the other locations such as the “Hawaii 5-0” with pepperoni, pineapple, sweet New York ricotta, fresh garlic and pickled jalapeño and meatball ricotta with “Stan’s meatballs,” marinara, sweet New York ricotta, fresh garlic and mozzarella.

Frazier, winner of “Chef Race: U.K. vs. U.S.” in 2012, promises you’ll never get tired of the menu because there will always be new items such as pizzas of the month and specials.

Prices will be similar to the original Newport location, the Irvine menu will include popular items such as Oreo Cookie Cheesecake, salads, sandwiches and more but the signature will be pizzas made from scratch in a state-of-the-art XLT conveyor oven.

On special nights there will also be live music on the patio, said Frazier, former drummer with Sugar Ray and now a member of The Side Deal.

“You could have a little jazz combo, a rock band, a singer-songwriter, a DJ — so we’re planning on doing a lot of entertainment out there,” he said. “We respect our neighbors and there’s a lot of students that live nearby and we don’t want to be loud and obnoxious, but at the same time, we want to invite people to come in and see Sgt. Pepps and feel the vibrations and have a good time.”

Roberts can’t wait to host the whole community as O.C. finds its way out of the pandemic. He says Sgt. Pepperoni is for everyone.

“We want family, kids, work teams, church groups,” he said. “We want people to celebrate together over one of the greatest foods in the world, pizza. It’s round, so you can put it in the middle of a table and people can grab a slice, and we serve beer and wine. So I am confident that the world is returning quickly to normal.”
