Flashes Bring Home MAC Title - Kent State Golden Flashes - Kent State University Athletics

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Kent State men's golf team won its 27th-Mid-American Conference Championship, tallying a third round total of 910 (+46) at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club. Sophomore Chris Vandette  was crowned tournament champion after a tournament total of  10-over 226.

At 910 (+46) for the tournament, the Flashes won by 13 strokes over second place Northern Illinois and 17 strokes over third place Ball State. The Flashes had four players finish in the top-10.

Vandette finished the final round with a 76 (+4) score after carding two birdies. He led the team in par-4 scoring (+10), and led the tournament in par-5 scoring (-4).

Julien Paltrinieri finished in fifth place overall with a 228 (+12) score after carding the team's lowest third round score of 72 (E). He fired four birdies in the final round, and finished the tournament leading the field with 11 total.

Jared Wilson finished tied for eighth with a 54-hole score of 231 (+15). Wilson fired an 80 (+8) in the final round.

Josh Gilkison posted a final round score of 76 (+4) and finished the tournament tied for 10th at 232 (+16). Gilkison led the team with 33 total pars and was second in the tournament in the category.

Rounding out the Flashes lineup was Cade Breitenstine who finished tied for 15th at 235 (+19). Breitenstine finished the tournament with a 74 (+2) score.

Kent State led the tournament with 143 pars as well as leading in par-4 and par-5.

After the tournament, Kent State brought home several pieces of hardware. Breitenstine headlined postseason award winners as the 2021 MAC Golfer of the year. Head coach Jon Mills was awarded the Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year Award. Paltrinieri and Vandette were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Flashes will move on to the NCAA Regional Tournament and will learn their Regional destination on Wednesday, May 5 during the NCAA Selection Show, which airs on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. Regional play for the 2021 Division I Men's Golf Championships will be held May 17-19, with play taking place at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., hosted by Ball State; Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., hosted by Florida State; Championship Course at UNM in Albuquerque, N.M., hosted by New Mexico; Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State; Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt; and Tumble Creek Golf & Country Club in Cle Elum, Wash., hosted by Washington
