New restaurants coming to Jefferson Pointe bring hope to nearby businesses - Fort Wayne's NBC

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - New restaurants are coming to Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne. A few business owners and managers told Fort Wayne's NBC News that the announcement brings them hope for more business amid the pandemic.

Fort Wayne's NBC News obtained a Jefferson Pointe flyer that provided updates on the outdoor mall.

According to the flyer, the following restaurants are expected to come to the area:

While many people expressed their excitement over the new restaurants, Fort Wayne's NBC News talked with business managers nearby to get their reaction.

Amy Raber, the store manager of DeBrand Fine Chocolates located at 4110 West Jefferson Boulevard, said she's excited about the announcement.

"I think it'll be good for Jefferson Pointe, and for all the businesses out here," said Raber.

Raber said she's been with the company for nearly two decades, and has been working at the Jefferson Pointe location for six years. For several years, she said she noticed the area has seen several vacated stores, and the pandemic did not help.

"It kind of makes you wonder what's going to happen to the mall sometimes because there are so many empty stores," said Raber. "So I think with these businesses coming in, especially restaurants, are really going to help us out here."

Raber said she's hopeful the new restaurants coming to the outdoor mall will bring new customers to help local businesses nearby, especially after many have struggled amid the pandemic.

Since Trader Joe's opened up their doors, Raber said her business has seen an increase in customers and sales.

"Since Trader Joe's opened, we have picked up so much here," Raber added. "So much foot traffic. So it's exciting to have more businesses open out here."

Fort Wayne's NBC News also talked with Ryan Underwood, a managing partner at Complete Health located at 4206 West Jefferson Boulevard.

Underwood said he shares the same hope as Raber.

He said he's a little concerned about how the new restaurants would impact the outdoor mall's parking, however, overall, he said he's hopeful the announcement will bring in diverse customers to the area. He hopes this can make Jefferson Pointe a destination where even more people will want to visit, Underwood added.

"The ability for these companies to work together synergistically to help each other grow is a huge part of the local business in Fort Wayne," Underwood said. "So if we can all help each other create more awareness, we can all benefit from that."

There is limited information about when the new restaurants will come, and where they will be located.

Fort Wayne's NBC News was able to confirm in early march that Beer Barrel Pizza & Grill, an Ohio-based pizza restaurant, is expected to take up a nearly 8,000-square foot endcap space on the city's west side. The restaurant is expected to open this summer. Beer Barrel Pizza & Grill has nine locations in Lima, St. Mary’s, Findlay, Toledo, and Columbus.

According to the Jefferson Pointe flyer that Fort Wayne's NBC News received, Burger Fi is expected to open up in fall of 2021.

Fort Wayne's NBC News called management at Jefferson Pointe on Monday to gather more details about the new restaurants, however, they declined to offer details, and recommended us to reach out to the vendors.

Fort Wayne's NBC News is currently working to gather more information.

This is a developing story.
