Tropical system to bring heavy rain, possible severe weather to Georgia this weekend - WSB Atlanta

ATLANTA — Areas in Georgia could see several inches of rain this weekend as a tropical system moves in from the Gulf of Mexico.

Our Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologists have been tracking the system as it developed over the last few days.

It’s expected to bring heavy rain and possible storms to the Southeast on Saturday and Sunday.

The storms will being moving in Saturday afternoon and should be out of the area by Sunday evening.

We’re updating the timing and areas that could see the most rain, on Channel 2 Action News

Here’s what you need to know:

• The potential tropical cycle will begin to move into Georgia Saturday night
• 4-8 inches of rain are possible in some areas
• There is a risk of isolated spin up tornadoes

Updated track on still potential tropical cyclone 3 has shifted a little farther south, as expected.

This is why I’ve been keeping rainfall totals in 2-4” range and limiting tornado risk to areas well south of I-20.
