DraftKings is bringing its brand to the Detroit market.
The popular sports betting operator is set to announce Thursday morning an agreement with Sports & Social to create a new sports bar in Detroit, pending regulatory approval.
While patrons won’t be able to place wagers at the venue – the location has yet to be announced -- a DraftKings spokesperson said the vision is to create an “upscale” sportsbook environment.
“There is going to be odds boards up, scrolling odds, scrolling scores, tons of TVs,” a DraftKings spokesperson told MLive. “It will have that look and feel of a sportsbook.”
Since online sports betting launched in Michigan on Jan. 22, DraftKings is second among the 13 online sports betting operators in the state with a total handle of $362.4 million. However, it doesn’t have a retail presence in metro Detroit. DraftKings’ Michigan retail sportsbook is located at Bay Mills Community Resort and Casino in the upper peninsula.

By partnering with Sports & Social, which already has a location in Detroit, DraftKings, which operates online and retail sportsbooks in 14 states, hopes to expand its digital sports entertainment and gaming footprint in Michigan.
“Today, so much of sports betting is focused on the mobile-technology aspect, however the in-person experience is an integral layer that we look forward to advancing alongside Sports & Social’s premier dining and entertainment offerings,” Ezra Kucharz, chief business officer at DraftKings, said in a release. “By aligning with one of the fastest-growing entertainment concepts in the country, we now have the opportunity to bring our world-class products to life by offering engaging, interactive and fan-first destinations to skin-in-the-game customers.”
Detroit and Nashville will be the first locations for the Sports & Social/DraftKings sports bars, although a name and locations will be announced in the coming months.
