HE EVEN RECENTLY TALKED TO THE FORMER U.S. SURGEON GENERAL, DOCTOR JEROME ADAMS, WHO SERVED UNDER THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION, SAYS ARE ABOUT ENGAGING PEOPLE FOR TREATMENT. THEY ARE THE DAWES. CDC SAYS FIVE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO ENGAGE IN TREATMENT FOR THOSE WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM. OPPONENTS SAY EVEN THOUGH THE SAFE NEEDLES HAVE CUT DOWN ON THE SPREAD OF HIV, THEY CLAIM THERE HAS ALSO BEEN AN INCREASE IN OPIOID OVERDOSE DEATHS. I HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS ABOUT SAYING YOU CAN GET A CLEAN NEEDLE EVERY TIME VOTING NO. THE OVERRIDE CAME UP THREE VOTES SHORT. THE MOTION IS NOT ADOPTED. THE SEVENTH SENATE IS A SWITCH. GAVE LITTLE REASON ON THE MIKE. I’M GOING TO ASK WHY YOU SWITCHED YOUR VOTE, BUT I’M GOING TO GO DOWN THE ROAD AND IF YOU DON’T THINK THAT’S UNCOMFORTABLE, I’VE DONE IT A COUPLE OF TIMES, WHICH COULD SET A TONE FOR THE REST OF THIS SHORT SESSION. BUT GOVERNOR PILLEN PRAISED SENATORS AND IN A STATEMENT SAID, QUOTE, WE NEED TO INVEST IN LESS HARMFUL WAYS TO COMBAT DRUG USAGE AND DRUG TRANSMISSION THAT ARE MORE IN LINE WITH NEBRASKA VALUES. A vote to override Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen's veto of a bill that would create a government-supported free needle exchange program for drug users failed Tuesday in the legislature.The Nebraska Legislature voted to sustain Pillen's veto of LB 307 by a vote of 27 to 20.“I appreciate that state senators took the time to evaluate LB 307 and took due notice of concerns that caused me to veto the bill,” Pillen said in a statement. “We need to invest in less harmful ways to combat drug usage and disease transmission that are in line with Nebraska values. A vote to override Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen's veto of a bill that would create a government-supported free needle exchange program for drug users failed Tuesday in the legislature.
The Nebraska Legislature voted to sustain Pillen's veto of LB 307 by a vote of 27 to 20.
