SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Shreveport police responded to reports of a shooting at around 11:48 p.m. on Monday, July 15.
The incident happened on Westover Road, near Mansfield Road.
Police say two men were standing outside when they fired shots at a group of people down the street. Two of the men from the group chased the gunmen and exchanged gunfire. One man was shot and ran to a house. He was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified him as Brion Morris, 21.
According to SPD, when they arrived to the area, two vehicles were seen heading in opposite directions on Hearne Avenue. Neither vehicle stopped for emergency lights or sirens. Vehicle 1 fled southbound eventually crashed into a utility pole in the 6000 block of Hearne Avenue.
The driver, 24-year-old Demond Taylor, then tried to flee on foot, but was found by a K9. He was arrested and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, property damage, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting an officer.
Vehicle 2 was later determined to be the car that took the shooting victim to the hospital.
As of 5 a.m., SPD said four people were detained with pending charges.
Morris’ death marks the 39th homicide in Caddo Parish and the 36th in Shreveport.
