The Kids Exchange consignment sale is in full swing at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.
The sale runs July 8-14 in the Jim Graham Building at 1025 Blue Ridge Road. Admission is free, but all shoppers must preregister on Eventbrite and show the confirmation on your phone to enter the sale.
Sellers get passes to get in a day early and shop.
The schedule is as follows:

- July 11: Kids Exchange Eve Sale: Open to the public from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with $20 admission.
- July 12: Public sale: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free admission.
- July 13: Public sale: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission.
- July 14: Public sale: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission. Items are half-price.

The annual sale is boasted as the largest kids consignment sale in North Carolina, with over a mile of clothing racks and 700 tables of kids toys, books, games, baby supplies and more. Parents and caregivers can buy items like car seats, strollers, furniture and sports equipment with prices determined by sellers representing over 1,600 families.
As prices rise, a new survey shows more than one-third of parents are setting a budget for back-to-school shopping this year.
Big bargains like the Kids Exchange can help families save.
"In years past, people did Kids Exchange to be a good steward of what they have," explained Amy Winestead, the event's co-founder. "Right now, when the economy is really, really tough, the groceries are expensive, everything is higher ... this has become a really a necessity for parents. They're like, if I can save $100 on my fall wardrobe for my kids, I need to do it."
Kids outgrow clothing, shoes and even toys quickly, and the sale gives those items a second -- or third -- life.
"Having a 3-year-old toddler, I've been doing this since I was expecting him," said Danielle Price, another shopper. "I think we've probably saved hundreds over the years ... [and] there's things that you can find here that I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise."
WRAL lifestyle editor Kathy Hanrahan has a list of 10 consignment sale tips. Some of her best include:
Bring a stroller or wagon. You will need something to put your purchases in and there aren't always carts available. Bringing your own cart is a must for consignment pros! I've seen many strollers with and without children in them being used to carry clothing (just hang them on the handles) or toys.
Bring a friend. You need someone to be there to, for lack of a better word, squat on the items that you want but are too large to drag around. They can stay with the item while you shop!
Check out expiration dates and quality of items. Sometimes the items being sold are missing parts or don't have the back for the battery compartment. Car seats have expiration dates, check them before buying one.
Go back on half-price day. Go back and see if there are any items you like. Sometimes you get great items that were just a bit overpriced or out of your budget, but are now much more attractive!
