TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — News 4 Tucson is learning new information about the situation surrounding the two-year-old left inside a hot car in Marana.
News 4 Tucson has obtained the interim complaint revealing the text message exchange between Scholtes and his wife.
News 4 Tucson is learning new information about the situation surrounding the two-year-old left inside a hot car in Marana.
The text messages between the husband and wife indicate this isn't the first time the father may have left his children alone in the car.
The interim complaint reveals the father, 37-year-old Chris Sholtes, allegedly got distracted that day by playing his game and putting his food away.
We are also learning the car was parked in direct sunlight and video surveillance also shows that Sholtes did not check on his daughter once while she was in the car.
After the toddler was found unresponsive and was on the way to the hospital, the wife sent her husband a text stating
"I told you to stop leaving them in the car, how many times have I told you."
In which Sholtes responded,
"Babe I'm sorry"
The wife replied,
"We have lost her she was perfect."
In which he responded,
"Babe. our family. How could I do this. I killed our baby, this can't be real."
The interim complaint says the father, 37-year-old Christopher Scholtes stated he arrived home at 2:30 p.m.
He advised he did not want to wake her up and wanted her to remain in the car while she slept.
He said he left the car running with the air-conditioner on.
Scholtes said his wife came home at 4 p.m. and asked where her daughter was. He began to check the rooms of the home and realized he had left her in the car.
He went back to check the car and it was not running anymore and found his two-year-old daughter unresponsive in the backseat.
Scholtes said "he got distracted by playing his game and putting his food away."
