Below-normal temperatures to hit Massachusetts this week; Arctic blast to bring potentially record-setting co - MassLive.com

Don’t put away your winter jacket just yet.

Below-normal temperatures are forecast in Massachusetts for the rest of the week, with a late-week Arctic blast expected to bring potentially record-setting cold weather Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures Tuesday will climb to the upper 50s and lower 60s, and daily afternoon highs should remain there until the weekend. Nighttime lows throughout the week will hover in the upper 30s across the state.

On Saturday, temperatures will dip significantly, as an Arctic blast will bring a March-like cold to the state and possible snow showers. Highs are only expected to reach 46 degrees in Boston, 42 degrees in Worcester and 43 degrees in Springfield and lows in the 30s overnight.

“Blustery and unseasonably cold conditions follow on Saturday with scattered rain and higher elevation snow showers,” the National Weather Service said.

The best chance for light accumulating snow, around 1 to 3 inches, will be in the Berkshires and the northern Worcester Hills. Lower-elevation areas could see a brief period of snow showers Saturday evening, though, the National Weather Service said.

The forecast is subject to change more than 72 hours out.
