The upside is that local restaurants have stepped up and are offering amazing takeout options specifically for Mother's Day. Of course, you might have decided to make a special meal for a mother in your life, but once you've looked these menus over, you might change your mind.

Victoria's will have "Picnic Packs," which include a mimosa pack, a pasta box (your choice of pasta), salad and dinner rolls. There are also chocolate-covered strawberries and a hand-tied flower bouquet. The packs feed four, and prices start at $85. Call 507-280-6232.

Since the beginning of the sheltering mandate, Forager has been selling take-home meal kits that contain enough ingredients for six meals. This week, to honor their mothers, Forager is offering kits including staff favorites from their own mothers (Robin's Chili, Bobbie's Jambalaya, Sharon's Caesar Salad, Amy's Tater Tot Hotdish, Tammy's Chicken Marsala and Marilyn's Rhubarb Crisp). If you order a meal kit specifically for Mother's Day, they will deliver it on Sunday with a plant from Flowers by Jerry. The vegetarian option (Herbivore) costs $100 or $130, with the plant. The meat option (Omnivore), without delivery or with a plant, is $120; with delivery and a plant costs $150. Call 507-258-7490.

Catering By Design has two options: Grilled Beef Tournedos with smoked shallot butter ($75) and Marinated Pork Tenderloin with smoked mushroom sweet madeira jus ($55). Both choices include grilled asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes, mixed greens, sweet-potato biscuits with honey butter, and a lemon curd tart with fresh berries. Orders need to be placed by tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6. Dinners feed two and must be picked up on Saturday with curbside drop-off or touchless front-door delivery. Breakfast items include a Quiche Lorraine (regular, $22.95; gluten free, $24.95), cinnamon rolls (six for $7.50), French toast brioche for two, $5, or $14.50 for 9-10, and a Lemon Curd Tart with fresh berries ($19.75). Bleu Duck is offering a creative take-and-bake option for Mother's Day. With an order, you get an asparagus salad, watermelon and crab salad, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and breakfast potatoes. There is also a choice between a breakfast enchilada or pork-belly hash, and between a French toast casserole or blueberry muffin bread pudding. To end the feast, a lemon cream pie. Bleu Duck has partnered with Fox & Fern Floral, so orders also include an option for a floral. The meal, which costs $120, serves 4-6 and is ready to cook. Orders must be placed by tomorrow. They prefer online ordering at bleuduckkitchen.com. Pick-up is Saturday; no delivery.

Pescara has also joined the takeout lineup, with their Mother's Day Take and Heat Brunch. This offering includes slow-braised beef or orange and honey-glazed ham. Sides are asparagus with lemon and parmesan, herb-roasted beets with sherry vinegar and goat cheese, gouda hash browns, vegetable quiche, Granny Smith apple and AmaBlu cheese salad, and the meal is finished off with fresh strawberries with balsamic mascarpone fondant. The meal, which will feed 4-6, costs $130. Call 507-280-6900 to order.

Twigs has also put together a special Mother's Day dinner. Theirs include Chardonnay chicken tenderloins in a Chardonnay cream sauce, strawberry cucumber salad with pomegranate dressing, garlic sauteed asparagus, and a choice of sides, including asparagus mashed potatoes, cilantro white rice, Spanish rice, or a baked potato with butter and sour cream. Also included are 12 Brazilian cheese puffs with honey butter. Dessert is their special chocolate cake with white-chocolate drizzle. The cost for four is $88; for two, $44. If you specify gluten-free, your meal will be prepared in their dedicated gluten-free kitchen. Orders need to be in by tomorrow. Pick-up is either Saturday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. or Sunday between 5 and 7 p.m.. Call 507-288-0206 to order.

Cameo is offering a Take and Bake Brunch for $120 that will feed 4-6. It includes sliced honey pit ham with orange glaze, smoked salmon with capers, reed onion, cucumbers, tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs, mashed potatoes with rosemary-Dijon gravy, roasted squash with spring pesto, roasted carrots with brown-sugar glaze, brioche bread pudding, chocolate chip cookies, dinner rolls with whipped butter, and strawberry salad with candied pecans, feta and balsamic vinaigrette.
