High temperatures in the early part of the week have parts of central Connecticut under a heat watch and New York City under a heat advisory.
Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90’s Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with light breezes and a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has declared a high heat watch for the Connecticut River Valley as well as parts of Massachusetts Monday afternoon until 8 p.m.
Fairfield County could see heat index values - how the temperature actually feels with humidity - in the high 90’s.
New York City and parts of Long Island and New Jersey are under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Monday.
“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening,” the National Weather Service said. “Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”

The rest of the week is expected to be hot and sunny with a chance of rain or thunderstorms developing Tuesday.
Sunday: Sunny with highs in the low 90’s. Light winds from the west.
Sunday night: Clear with a low in the mid-70’s. Light breeze.
Monday: Sunny with highs in the mid 90’s. Heat indexes could reach 99 in Fairfield County and as high as 105 in some areas of central Connecticut. Expect light wind.
Monday night: Clear with a low in the high 70’s. Light winds.
Tuesday: Chance of showers around 30 percent with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Mostly sunny with highs in the low 90’s. Light winds with gusts possible up to 20 miles-per-hour.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80’s.
Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, lows in the lower 70’s.
Thursday: Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 80’s
Thursday night: Partly cloudy skies with temperatures dropping into the low 70’s.
Friday: Sunny with highs in the mid 80’s.
Friday night: Partly cloudy with temperatures falling to the low 70’s.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, highs in the mid-80’s
