Artists from all over the country are continuing to perform live without leaving their homes. It's become a necessity as music venues shut down in the face of increasing coronavirus cases. And it likely won't change anytime soon.
Local artists, many of whom have lost most if not all of their income, have been hit particularly hard. Livestreaming has become more important than ever. And we're here to showcase some of the best.
Hank Honey joins us at 11 a.m. Friday to perform over at the Preview from the Houston Chronicle Facebook page.
If you like the Preview from the Houston Chronicle Facebook page now, you'll get a notification when the next concert starts. You can also watch the full performance below.
Honey's music is unapologetically pop and showcases his unique viewpoint. He's also produced music for other artists and was part of our mini-Pride festival in June. He's part of the city's expanding stable of talented LGBTQ+ artists.
Hank Honey
Years active: Six or seven for production, a year-and-a-half as Hank Honey
Genre: Funk-pop
Latest project: I self-released my debut EP last year and am currently finishing my next. Heavier content, harder grooves.
Where you're from: Grew up in Spring, been in central Houston since I was 18 when I moved for college. (Go Coogs)
Where we can find you online: You can stream my music on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, Amazon music. You can also follow my tomfoolery on IG (@hankhoney) and the Twitter account I just started (@hankandhishoney)
Why we should pay attention to you: I want to bring back a level of showmanship and just plain fun that I feel has been missing from pop for awhile now. What I want to put out into the world is not an amplification of my own or anyone else's pain, I want to bring joy. Acknowledge the pain, then say, 'Screw it, let's dance.' The best pop either has you crying on the dance floor or saying, 'This is ridiculous. And I love it.' I’m also proud of making every part of the finished product you hear, from the writing to the production and mixing.
Why it's important for people to support local art right now: Oh man. If there's ever a time to support local art it's right now. The music industry has never been known for its stability, but with live music almost completely shut down, so many artists, performers, musicians, audio techs, touring sound engineers and designers have had their lifelines totally cutoff with no centralized governmental plan to bring it back. So please, if you have any expendable income during this, keep the culture in Houston alive and fund an artist!
