Laura to Bring Rain and Wind to the Commonwealth - LEX18 Lexington KY News

As we roll into our Friday, things start out quiet, but the action isn't expected to begin until later in the day...potentially the worst this evening and overnight. Laura continues to weaken and is now a tropical depression but still has some impressive wind and rain with it. We have the chance to see some of that as early as midday, but the heaviest rain is set to move through tonight into early Saturday morning. We will likely pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain with 3 inches not out of the question closer to the KY/TN border. Wind will also accompany the rain. Generally 20-30 mph gusts ought to cover it for our area, but isolated damaging wind gusts will stick to our southern counties.

As the remnants of Laura continue to spin (just like a low pressure) it is possible that we see a couple of rotating thunderstorms or brief spin-up tornadoes around the Tennessee and Mississippi valleys today. The threat remains around 2% though. After the rain finishes up Saturday, we will dry out through the night and Sunday will be much calmer and cooler too.
