Lexington, SC - The Lexington office of the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service announced Friday that they had recently hired three new agents. Even though they maintain offices in Lexington, SC, their unique knowledge in any particular area of expertise is available to any citizen in the state who has questions that these agents may be qualified to answer. That's why these new agents will help better fulfill the Extension Service's mission of improving the quality of life of all South Carolinians.
With a vast amount of experience and training in livestock, 4-H, and food safety, these agents are ready to answer your questions today.
The first new agent they would like to introduce is Nicole Correa - Area Livestock Agent for
Lexington County. You can reach her by email at ncorrea@clemson.edu.
Nicole Correa is the new Area Livestock/Forages agent based in Lexington and covers Lexington, Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.
Nicole is originally from a small town in Hawaii called Waialua. Nicole grew up on a ranch with a variety of livestock including horses, sheep, goats, chickens and geese. She also loves working with cattle.
Nicole has a BS degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University and a MS degree in Animal Science from University of Hawaii-Manoa. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and is excited to be able to work with producers and clients in the area.
In her spare time, Nicole enjoys all things outdoors, eating at local restaurants, and attending rodeo events. We look forward to all the great things Nicole will have to offer our clients and stakeholders.
The second new agent being introduced in the area is Erika Jones - 4-H and Youth Development Agent for Lexington County. You can reach Erika by email at erikaj@clemson.edu.
Erika is a native of South Carolina from Columbia. She grew up involved in the Lexington County 4-H Horse Club and went on to serve on the South Carolina 4-H State Teen Council. Erika is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. During her time at Clemson University, she was an intern for Clemson Extension Services, working the State 4-H Office and for the Horse Program Coordinator.
At Clemson, Erika was also involved with the Equestrian team and the Block and Bridle Club. Erika’s passion for 4-H and Extension comes from the impact 4-H made on her life during her formative years. She is excited to return to her home county and to continue giving back to the organization that gave her so much.
The third and final new agent that is being introduced is Samantha Houston - Food Systems & Safety Agent for Lexington County. Samantha can be reached by email at housto7@clemson.edu. Samantha is the new Food Systems and Safety Agent for Lexington, Calhoun, and Orangeburg counties.
She graduated from USC Aiken with a bachelor’s in biology and worked for the last three years with the SC Department of Agriculture’s Food and Feed Safety Department. While there, she processed wholesale food manufacturer permits as well as honey product sales and egg sales licenses.
As the Food Systems and Safety Agent, she will assist in educating the public primarily in consumer food safety including teaching courses such as ServSafe, home food preservation, and safe food handling practices. She is also able to assist with questions regarding food manufacturing safety and regulations.
