FLUSHING, MI -- Flushing schools plans to send in-person learners back to the classroom Monday, January 11.
The Flushing Community Schools Board of Education approved its latest Extended Covid-19 Learning Plan Tuesday, Dec. 15, which approved the students’ return to a hybrid learning, in-person schedule.
The return date is about four weeks away, but the district wanted to let families know as soon as possible so they could plan accordingly, according to a district Facebook post.
“Based on the data available to us, as well as ongoing guidance from the Genesee County Health Department, we continue to strongly believe that we will be in a position to bring students back into the school setting safely, and will have the necessary staffing to meet our students ‘in person’ needs consistently and effectively,” the post reads.
If the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service order regarding in-person high school students is extended beyond this week, Flushing schools will change its plan accordingly to follow the order and communicate that with families.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Sunday, Nov. 15, that in-person learning at colleges and high schools must halt in-person class for three weeks starting Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Whitmer later extended the partial shutdown through Dec. 20.
Flushing, the county’s third-largest school district, was one of many Genesee County districts to switch all students back to online learning as cases spiked for a second time across the county and state. All students moved to online learning by Nov. 30.
