BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man is on a mission to move along the city's renaissance.
He's doing it by bringing the past and present together over at Silo City.
Silo City is known for its grandeur. Around the corridor, there are projects underway to bring housing and business.
But Charlie Monte Verde wants to bring back a piece of Buffalo's history to the space.
It's called the Flour by Rail Legacy Project. Monte Verde is raising money to bring in a boxcar that is currently sitting on Buffalo's east side. From there, they'll use a $10,000 grant from CSX to help with a boxcar that's in Rochester.
An exciting update to share on this effort, this AM @SPECNewsBuffalo. Charlie tells me the project has received a $10,000 grant from CSX to move the box car sitting in #ROC.

Monte Verde's family used to operate the switches at Silo City. So, the project is personal.
He knows that's the same for so many others.
"The intrinsic ties to this and the community and particularly here, when you are talking adjacent to the Old First Ward. That history is a lot more recent than folks realize maybe," said Verde.
They need $8,500 to get the first boxcar to Silo City. There's a GoFundMe set up for that.
The hope is to have the first car arrive by April, with the rest to follow.
