9 new COVID-19 cases bring statewide total to 504 - Oil City News

CASPER, Wyo. — Confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 have increased to 504 in Wyoming as of 3 pm Saturday, May 9, according to the Wyoming Department of Health.

That is an increase of 9 from the total 495 confirmed cases reported on Saturday. Deaths from COVID-19 complications remain at 7. “Probable cases” remain steady at 158.

“Probable Cases include a total count of people who are identified to be a close contact to a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 case AND develop symptoms of COVID-19 within 14 days, but are not tested. This count includes probable cases that have recovered,” the WDH says.

No new confirmed or probable cases were reported in Natrona County. Natrona has seen 38 laboratory confirmed cases and 10 probable cases.

Statewide, 443 people are considered recovered from the virus, including 312 with a confirmed case. 35 in Natrona are recovered including 27 with a confirmed case.

“A case is defined as recovered when there is resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and there is improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) for 72 hours AND at least 7 days have passed since symptoms first appeared,” says the WDH.

13,416 tests have been completed overall in Wyoming. 6,044 of those tests were completed at the Wyoming Public Health Laboratory with the remaining tests completed at other labs, according to the WDH.

That includes 899 tests for Natrona County completed at the WPHL and 383 at other labs. The WDH says Natrona has seen 5.1% of tests come back positive for COVID-19.

What to do if you are feeling sick: In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Casper-Natrona County Health Department says that people who are feeling sick or exhibiting symptoms should contact their primary physician.

If you do not have a primary care provider, and live in Natrona County, please contact the COVID-19 hotline, operated by the Casper-Natrona County Department of Health. The line is open Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm 577-9892. Hotline services are intended for Natrona County residents and may not be able to provide specific information to persons calling from out of county.

Officials ask that you please do not self-report to the Emergency Room. Persons experiencing problems breathing should call 9-11.

Practice Social Distancing by putting distance between yourself and other people. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Cover coughs and sneezes. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
