A project is underway in a Tri-State community that aims to bring more housing opportunities to town.
It's happening in Rushville, Illinois, where city officials said they will soon have a new neighborhood full of new houses.
The ground is just about ready to build a brand new neighborhood on in Rushville.
"This is a project we've been looking at for years," Rushville Real Estate Agent Janet Bond said. "There's such a shortage of houses in Rushville, so this is like a dream come true."
Bond said the project, which will put 24 new homes in Rushville, aims to bring more housing opportunities to the area.
She said 19 homes will go in this lot here to make a new neighborhood.
The others are lumped in small groups around town.
"We're going to have 24 new houses," Bond said. " It will be affordable housing. This is the first three that they've broke ground on."
Funded by the Cass County Housing Authority, Bond said the houses will be rented to anyone in the community.
"There's a variety," Bond said. "Two stories, single stories, two bedroom and three bedroom. They all have a concrete driveway and attached garage and they will be kept neatly maintained."
Bond said the goal is to bring more people to Rushville, which she hopes will help the local economy.
"We'll have more people in our churches, in our theater, in our new facility and we have lots of restaurants and lots of good food," Bond said.
She said these houses are a chance to grow the Rushville community, as soon as the homes are finished and people start to move in.
"Of course we'd like to see them full," Bond said. "Then we would hope, maybe that would free up some houses for some more families."
Bond said the houses should be done within months, then they can start on the neighborhood.
She said rent will depend on your income, but the normal price will be around 800 to 900 hundred dollars a month.
